I admire
butterflies, for their beauty captures me and takes me peacefully to my Safe
Haven. I'm ever so happy when I see one flit by, all fluttery and carefree,
minding its own business. As a child I've tried catching them. They'd have me
running about the yard playfully… I never caught one before.
As I got older, I
learned about the becoming of a butterfly, and how it takes 3 stages before a
butterfly can bask in the sunshine, with all its beauty… it's 4th stage is our
happiest. They undergo complete metamorphosis through 4 stages: Egg, Larva, Pupa,
Adult. Adult female butterflies lay tiny eggs on plants where, once hatched the
caterpillar (larva) inside can get food. The caterpillar works on growing, by
eating as much as 20 time its weight, to store it's food for adult hood,
splitting its skin (molting), 4 or 5 times, and getting as big as 100 times its
size. When it's full grown (no more than 2 inches long), it stops eating and it
becomes a pupa, or more correctly, a chrysalis. The chrysalis is what we see
hanging from leaves or branches (some species have been found to bury their
pupa underground). The chrysalis is a small cocoon of silk that protects the
caterpillar as it goes through its many weeks, months, even two whole years of
transition. To our human eyes, the chrysalis looks still as if nothing is
happening. But the unique cells that were present in the larva are working and
growing overtime, to form the adult butterfly, eyes, legs, wings and all! The
unique larva cells also provide energy for the adult butterfly. According to
the Academy of Natural Sciences,
"The
adult stage is what most people think of when they think of butterflies. They
look very different from
the larva. The caterpillar has a few tiny eyes, stubby legs and a very short
antennae. The adults have long legs, long antennae and compound eyes. They can
also fly by using their large and colourful wings. The one thing they can't do
is grow."
It's great to think
that butterflies make the world a prettier more colourful place but, they too
have a purpose. They carry pollen from plant to plant, helping fruits
vegetables and flowers to produce new seeds. They also, at their larva stage
provide food for other insects, birds and mammals.
So much life lessons
are thought to me daily by these fantastic creatures. I've learned that
transformation is necessary in order for my purposed to be fulfilled. The true
time of growth occurs only during the period of hard-on, tough experiences.
Transitioning takes time. Learn from my experiences and grow. Be steadfast now
for the time of beauty would come. Spiritual nourishment is great gain for the
youth, for a time would come when the nourishment would be cut off. That's when
the true transition begins. Our purpose is eternal. Thou we may not see or feel
His presence in our lives, remember God works overtime to help us fulfill our
purpose. Study, work, save, invest, construct, now, as much as is possible, for
the time will come when no more growth can occur. Progress is important. A
little today, a little tomorrow, a little again the day after tomorrow, don't
procrastinate; progress, and reap the benefits in happiness. It takes time and
work for beauty to unfold; some may not show their soft tender hearts until
they've felt comfortable and have grown confident of your trust. Don't take
flight, and go busily about your business without stopping to smell the
flowers! I love butterflies.

One thing I must say
to the judge, and to the jury; I never compare my life to that of others. I
don't think that I've had the worst life, or the best life… My unending point
is, that I've had many experiences that has made me who I am today… some I'm proud
of, some I don't like speaking about, some I know for sure has been the
experiences of many. So I'm that creature that has God created to face the
world boldly, without fear of tomorrow.
I'd like to think of my life as that of a Butterfly. Sometimes I wonder which of the 4 stages I've conquered.

As I reflect on this
beautiful creature, I place my life in front of me, in full view. I see all the
struggles I've endured, all the pains I've felt, heartache, loneliness,
depression, anxiety, losses, disappointments, failures. I also examine whatever
progress I've made, growth, success. I have the tendency to allow past mistakes
to make cloudy my view, but I try to have some Butterfly Faith. For Butterfly
Faith is Believing in God and in Self, It's Enduring, Longsuffering, Patience,
Loving Unconditionally, It's Fighting the Good Fight, It's Not Giving Up, It's
Transforming and Growing, It's Progress, It's Believing in Trustworthiness,
It's Respecting and a Honoring, It's Holding Out, Just A Little While Longer,
It's finding my purpose in life and allowing God to take full control of my
Being, All of me… It's Bliss. My Safe Haven is blissful.
To me, Butterflies
represent 'positive change'. They are also symbolic of a 'New Beginning'. Every
time I see a butterfly (which is very rear), I decide upon a necessary change
that must be made in my life, a new beginning. It may be as small as giving up
an unhealthy snack or as big as deciding not to eat meat; changing my hairstyle
or hair colour, even finally listening to the Holy Spirit on big topics like
Relationships, Friendships, Fornication, Masturbation, etc.
